“A video that captured the rescue of a 4-year old toddler went viral.[i] The boy was dangling on a balcony of an apartment in Paris seconds away to crash and die in daylight while dozens of onlookers were watching. Fortunately, one of the onlookers was a man with a now or never mindset. Mamoudou Gassama- a 22-year old young man (aka France’s Spiderman), was the rescuer who stepped into the scene to save the kid.
Let me put this into context. Gassama was an undocumented immigrant. He was at a risk of being rounded up and deported by France’s immigration officers at any time. Why then, you may wonder and ask, he risked it all and jumped to save a child?
The answer is simple. He knew his passion. In an interview, Gassama said that he loves children. Since he explored and discovered his passion for service including children, when an opportunity presented itself in the form of rescuing a toddler, Gassama didn’t hesitate to take it. Because of that one heroic move of a man with a now or never attitude, an undocumented immigrant was invited to meet the President of France, offered expedited citizenship, and a position to serve as a firefighter. The moral of the story is that when we have a now or never mindset, we have a chance to step into our greatness at any moment.
Thus, develop the now or never attitude. Going forward, be ready to honor every opportunity you may get. Serve boldly and heroically to serve in the area of your passion like Gassama.”
